The conventional opinions about dressing for your body shape are limited, based on "do's and don'ts," how to conceal "problem areas," and other out-of-date advice. It's time to put those thoughts away. You get to choose what looks best on your own body. Most importantly, wear what you love!

However, we also know that understanding how to recognize and dress for your body shape will help you make smarter wardrobe decisions and gain confidence in your style. That's why we sought our expert Stylists to tackle this difficult subject and offer the ultimate body-positive guide to measuring and discovering your body shape. Let's plunge in!

  1. TRIANGLE BODY TYPE (Pear Shape):
  • You may have this body type if...

Your waist is wider than your bust.

  • You consider yourself to have fuller hips
Your shoulders are narrower than your hips.
    You have a fuller rear.
  • Choose shirts and dresses with frills, pleats, and ties at the top to highlight your upper body. Boat neck, scoop neck, and sweetheart necklines highlight your shoulders. Shoulder pads are also always effective!
Wear straight or slightly flared trousers with heels. These styles help to balance out your bottom-heavy physique.
  • Pants or tights restricting your legs, such as skinny and flared jeans, can highlight your lower half even more. Avoid these styles if you want your figure to look more balanced.

2.) HOURGLASS BODY TYPE (Curvy Shape):

You may be this body type if…

  • You’d describe your body as curvy.
  • You have a well-defined waist.
  • Your bust and hip measurements are
  • roughly even.
  • You may have a fuller bust, hips + thighs.
  • V-neck dresses and tops will enhance your bust and flatter your hourglass figure. Plunge and sweetheart necklines are also excellent ways to highlight your balanced body.
Belts and other midsection-pinching items will draw attention to your waist. This also helps to highlight your curvaceous top and bottom.
  • Boxy and shapeless clothing tends to obscure your hourglass figure. If you want to highlight your curves, avoid these styles.

3). HEART BODY TYPE (Inverted triangle or apple shape):

You may be this body type if…

    • You are generally well-proportioned.
    • Your shoulders are broader than your hips.
    • You are not necessarily as curvy through your hips.
    • You don’t have a well-defined waistline.
    • If you're apple-shaped, opt for V-necklines and flared trousers. To dress an apple-shaped physique, focus on your chest and legs. Shirts and outfits that highlight your neck, chest, and lower half will draw attention away from your belly.
    • Follow your bodyline and focus on the top and bottom thirds of your body. Shirts, blouses, and dresses with mild V-neck styles work well for this body type.
Flared trousers, rather than straight-leg or narrow jeans, will help balance your larger shoulders and heavier upper torso. Wearing bottoms that fall just below your hip bone helps to attract attention away from your stomach.
    • Follow your bodyline and concentrate on the upper and lower thirds of your body. Shirts, blouses, and dresses with a modest V-neck look great on this body shape.
Flared trousers, rather than straight-leg or narrow jeans, will aid in balancing your wider shoulders and heavier upper torso. Wearing bottoms that fall just below the hip bone draws attention away from your stomach.

4). RECTANGLE BODY TYPE (ATHLETIC SHAPE):

You may be this body type if…

    • You’re not particularly curvy.
    • Your shoulders and hip measurements are nearly the same.
    • Your waist is straight up and down.
    • Your weight is evenly distributed throughout your body.
    • If your body type is straight, wear voluminous tops and slim jeans. To outfit a rectangle body shape, emphasize your arms and legs. Wearing vibrant, patterned blouses and figure-hugging pants helps to break up your shape and generate curves on your body.
    • Choose shirts and skirts with ruffles and frills to add texture, volume, and femininity to your silhouette. A dress with a lot of ornamentation on the bust can add weight to the area and make it appear bigger.
    • Wear miniskirts with vibrant tights to highlight your beautiful legs. Or put on skinny jeans. These figure-hugging styles enhance your body's shape and curves.
Wear belts with your dresses and skirts to tighten your waist and highlight your contours.
    • Wearing straight or baggy clothing on both the bottom and top can give you a more shapeless appearance. If you wish to add definition to this body type, avoid these styles.
